Visit to @MediaLabYYC

After the SMBYYC, I had a chance to check out MediaLabYYC’s facilities at the Bridge in downtown Calgary. MediaLab is an all purpose multimedia studio, inspired by Youtube Space LA (Toronto, NY, etc). You can go there and record podcasts, and daily Youtube shows, they have lighting, cameras, a green screen and a series of editing computers, plus a booth to do clean sound. I got to Meet Kyle Marshall (MediaLabYYC President) who gave me a brief tour.

#PayItForward with Kevin Kirkpatrick

#Payitforward When I refreshed my lighting kit, I knew the old kit was just going to go in the closet so I decided to give it to another filmmaker. I wanted to reach out to someone who was one light kit away from making movies. so through the @c.s.i.f , I got a message from Kevin Kirkpatrick (differentalphabet) who came over to pick up the gear and we had a brief chat about #film, #indiefilm, #musicvideo and film influences. Check him out!

Be Kind

Watching Patton Oswalt’s special this weekend, these words really got to me.

She hated the phrase “everything happens for a reason,” he says. “It’s all chaos, it’s all random, and it’s horrifying, and if you want to try and reduce the horror, and reduce the chaos, be kind. That’s all you can do.” Patton oswalt

Social Media 101: Think twice, post once.

In light of last night’s social media tweet by the Flames‘ Comms director Sean Kelso,

It might be important to revisit a couple of guidelines on what to do when you or someone who works for you steps in a social media landmine. Entrepreneur Magazine has great article about the biggest social media fails of 2017 and includes some things to keep in mind before you hit ‘Post’.

One of the best ones is this: Remember that politics is a dangerous game.

Think twice, post once folks..
